The City of Guthrie has been approved for a grant that will add a splash pad and playground project inside Mineral Wells Park. The city council will now vote to accept and match the 50-50 grant.
The council will discuss and take possible action on accepting the grant from the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department for the Land and Water Conservation Fund in the amount of $437,500 for Mineral Wells Park Improvements.
Officials say the goal of the projects is to provide all-inclusive assets for Guthrie that increase quality of life, a guiding principle of the City.

This grant application for the Land and Water Conservation Fund is a 50/50 match grant available through the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department.
The grant was submitted by the Guthrie Planning Department on July 31 with the award letter being received on November 30.
The City has been awarded $437,500 pending final approval from the National Park Service. In addition, the City would match $437,500 from the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) sales tax collection.
The project includes a new splash pad, new playground equipment, hard surface parking and ADA accessible sidewalks and new gazebos that hold true to the historic nature of Mineral Wells Park.
The council meeting is slated for Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
