A husband and wife counted their blessings after the May 4th Guthrie fire nearly took their home. However, on late Wednesday evening, they saw their home destroyed by fire and killing their pets.

The Woodcrest Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire just before 10 p.m. on Williams Road, located just off of Midwest Blvd in southern Logan County. Once fire crews arrived on the scene the home was fully involved.

The wife attempted to get into the home to save her animals, but the smoke and flames were too much. The only item the couple saved was their vehicle.

Woodcrest, along with Oak Cliff and Sooner fire departments, were able to contain and quickly extinguish the fire, but the structure is a total loss. Fire officials say although it has not been confirmed how the fire started, it is believed it may have ignited by electrical issues.

The couple is safe, but is in need of donations (clothing, toiletries , etc.) as they prepare to move forward. Donations can be dropped off at Ken’s Pizza (121 Cimarron Trail) which is where both are employed. Clothing sizes are still being finalized, but men’s extra-large shirts and women’s 18-20 extra-large are being requested. More information will be updated as it becomes available.

The American Red Cross is assisting the couple.

  2. So sad, My wife has met them as the Red Cross is putting them up at her hotel for now. It made my wife cry. So sad. I hope these two are able to find some normalcy and get back to life. So sad to lose your pets and everything you have. Some of our pets are like our children. Good luck to you folks and I wish you future success. Sad you made it through the wildfire for only this to happen. Good luck.
