District 1: Gravel and road maintenance crews have been active

One of our very smart farmers/rancher in our district, recommended we look at a relatively inexpensive piece of road maintenance equipment called a “Road Boss”.  It looks much like a large box blade and is pulled behind a tractor.  We checked into it and after watching a live demo it became apparent to our road maintenance team that this may work on our interior gravel roads in residential areas.  Well, we tried it out this week on Highland Hills Dr. and the neighborhood seemed very pleased with the results. 

In addition, our gravel and road maintenance crews have been active this last week as it was prime time for grading and crowning our rural feeder roads. We have also been out trimming trees on the right of way and installing new road and traffic control signs. If you know of a really bad area please let us know.

W. Forrest Hills update from last week: The asphalt paving contractors completed paving the mile from Broadway to approximately where Bryant would come out, or just east of Maple Ridge Lane.  This is a 3” asphalt cap over a compacted aggregate base. A special thanks from me to our road maintenance team for getting this road base prepared on short notice.

Right of way utility relocation will continue on Coltrane between Waterloo and Seward and will be finished no later than August 6th, 2015. Rural Water District 1 is relocating utilities in support of expanded right of way preparation. Current estimates of the earliest completion date of paving Coltrane is sometime in 2017.

We completed the inventory of all District 1 equipment and expendables.  We are finalizing our corrective action plan that will update the inventory to reflect the missing property and put our inventory and accounting process back in compliance with state statutes. Remember, we still have a solid waste collection site set up at the District 1 office, 2315 SW 19th St., Guthrie, OK. The collection site is for solid waste only. We cannot accept garbage of any kind, food or vegetation, hazardous materials, appliances containing Freon, rubber tires, paint or liquids. The dumpster is available to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mon. through Fri., except for holidays. We ask that you check in at the office before dumping. Please help us keep our roads and highways clean and safe.
