The 54th annual Howard Fife Invitational returned to the Guthrie Golf & Country Club (GGCC) over the weekend, and it was Dominic Stevens and his team who came out on top in the highly competitive event.
Stevens, a former Crescent High School standout, led his team to the tournament win with a strong showing on both days. His team carded a 5-under round on Saturday and followed it up with a 2-over round on Sunday, securing the victory at 3-under for the tournament.
The winning team featured Stevens, Josh Weeden, Barney Horrigan, Stephen Ealy, and Bucky Denham.
The victory adds to the Stevens family legacy, as Dominic’s father, Jeff Stevens, won the Fife Invitational in 2024.
Dominic Stevens made headlines in 2021 by winning all nine tournaments during his senior year at Crescent High School, earning a 2A State Individual Title and being selected to the Oklahoma All-State team. He ended that remarkable season with a stroke average of 70.41.
Finishing in second place was the team led by Drew Sterkel, which included Brody Jarnagin, Jeff Hirzel, Tony Benear, and Adam Schuster.
Of the 22 teams in the tournament, only two finished under par, and just two teams finished even, underscoring the difficulty of the course and the strength of the competition.
The Howard Fife Invitational is known for its distinctive format. Saturday’s round featured each team’s low best ball score, while Sunday required teams to count their two lowest balls. All players were assigned handicaps verified by the Guthrie Golf & Country Club and grouped into A, B, C, D, and E levels to ensure balanced competition.
GGCC is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, while the golf course itself marks 117 years of history.
With its unique format and competitive field, the Fife Invitational once again showcased local talent and camaraderie, continuing a tradition of golf excellence in Guthrie.
