A school cafeteria worker arrived early Friday morning to prepare breakfast for students at Cotteral Elementary as she does each morning. However, this time she found a complete mess as vandals had broken into the building.
The school employee opened the doors to find food scattered everywhere, a freezer partially torn open, door windows broken out, a television screen busted and a couple of computer monitors damaged in and around the school cafeteria.
A Guthrie police officer tells Guthrie News Page that the vandals gained entry through a window on the west side of the building.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson says there was approximately $2,400 worth of damages.
Workers were able to clean up the debris before children arrived to school.
Guthrie Police are working leads in the case.
It is unknown at this time if the vandalism is directly involved with the fire at Banner School. Fire crews were called to the scene just before 4 a.m. for the fire that has been privately owned for some time now. Related story: Banner School destroyed by early morning fire
