Five firefighters with the Guthrie Fire Department recently accomplished their classroom training on proper car seat restraints for children. On Wednesday, they put their new knowledge into action.
A free car seat check was held from 2 -4 p.m. at the fire station and was well attended.
The fire department now has a total of 13 firefighters who have achieved their national (Child Passenger Safety) certifications for car seat installation and inspection.
CPS technicians and instructors use their considerable knowledge and expertise at a variety of community-based activities, such as child safety seat checks, where parents and caregivers receive education and hands-on assistance. CPS technicians and instructors also keep up-to-date on the latest technical information about child passenger safety through seminars and other continuing education opportunities.
Children under two-years-old must be in a rear-facing car seat. Kids two to four can use a front-facing seat and children over four before their eighth birthday or shorter than 4’9” must be in some kind of car or booster seat.
If you have any questions about a child’s safety seat you can stop by the station at 209 E. Springer for a free car seat inspection.
