Former Guthrie golfer Drew Dodgion headed to NCAA National Tournament

Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s (SWOSU) Women’s Golf team wrapped up its season with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Central Region Championships, but for one former Guthrie standout, the journey isn’t over just yet.

Senior Drew Dodgion, a 2020 graduate of Guthrie High School, tied for fourth place individually at regionals, earning one of only two individual qualifying spots to advance to the NCAA National Championships. The tournament featured 18 teams from three conferences, and while only the top four teams and two individual golfers not on advancing teams earned spots at nationals, Dodgion’s steady performance propelled her to the next level.

Dodgion opened the regional tournament with a blistering 2-under-par 68 on Monday, carding six birdies in the round. She followed with solid rounds over the next two days, finishing +5 over her final two rounds to maintain her spot near the top of the leaderboard. Her nine birdies tied for the second-most in the entire tournament field.

With the finish, Dodgion becomes just the second Lady Bulldog in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual golfer. It will also be her second appearance at nationals, as she was part of the team that advanced to the national stage in 2024.

The 2024 NCAA Division II National Championships will take place May 13–17 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nevada.

In addition to her on-course success, Dodgion is also excelling in the classroom. She was one of seven SWOSU golfers named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team this year, recognizing her dedication to both athletics and academics. Dodgion’s golf journey began in Guthrie, where she placed 10th at the Class 5A State Tournament during her junior season. Unfortunately, her senior season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but she has gone on to make a significant mark at the collegiate level.

Dodgion continues to make her hometown proud as she prepares to compete on the national stage once again.
