Former reserve deputy charged with three counts; pleads not guilty

A former Logan County Reserve Deputy is facing three misdemeanor charges after he allegedly fabricated a story of an intruder coming into his house and stabbing him earlier this month.

IMG_5796Adam Striegel, 32, was terminated from the Sheriff’s Department after he reportedly admitted to investigators he made the whole story up.

Striegel, joined by his attorney, Jill Tontz, pleaded not guilty in front of Judge Robert Hudson on Thursday to three charges, including criminal slander, false reporting of a crime and calling 911 to report false information.

His bond was set at $6,000 and he is expected to be back in court on May 9.

Investigators say Striegel called 911 in the morning of March 4 and reported a Hispanic male had come into his home, at 318 E. Mansur, and stabbed him. Striegel said he fired off one gun shot at the intruder but missed and the male fled on foot.

Schools were placed on lockdown for several minutes while officers set up a perimeter to try to locate a suspect.

Police located a Hispanic male and later said Striegel positively identified his attacker at the scene. The falsely accused suspect, that matched the description given by Striegel, was detained by police, but was released shortly after he was questioned by investigators.

The first charge of calling 911 to report false information is punishable by no more than a $500 fine. The second charge of false reporting of a crime can carry up to 90 days in the county jail and a $500 fine, or both. The third charge of criminal slander can carry a maximum punishment of $500, 120 days in the county jail or both.

  1. Well, I think they should make an example of him and give him the maximum charges, if for no other reason, because he falsely accused an innocent man who was unfairly detained for a home invasion and stabbing and underwent a lie detector test in order to clear his name.

seems to me he should be charged with firing his weapon in city limits or some kind of gun charge so he wont be able to get a CC license and continue carrying a gun

  3. I agree with both of the above people!!
