Gassers and Geezers bike rally for 89ers Day

The second annual Geezers, Gassers and Hogs car/bike rally and poker walk will be held Friday, April 18 in downtown Guthrie as part of its 84th annual 89er Days Celebration.

Car ShowThe rally, hosted by the Guthrie Rotary Club, will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Oklahoma Avenue between First and Wentz Streets, said Chuck Burtcher, event coordinator.

Ronnie Kaye from 92.5 KOMA radio will be broadcasting live 5-9 p.m. that night from Above the Rest antique mall, located at 110 West Oklahoma Avenue.

Burtcher said he expects close to 200 cars and motorcycles to be displayed during the rally. Last year, the event attracted about 90 participants.

“Our hopes are that people will bring vehicles and motorcycles that everyone is going to have an interest in seeing,” Burtcher said. “Last year we had cars come in from Shawnee and we actually had a car from California come in and join us. A chuck wagon feast kicks off the 89er Days Celebration on Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. at the Logan County fairgrounds with food, music and live and silent auctions.

A family focused carnival comes to town Wednesday, April 16 thru Saturday, April 19 with over 80 craft and food vendors lining the streets.

The Guthrie High School sophomore baseball team faces off against Midwest City Thursday at 4 p.m. at Squires Field in downtown Guthrie, followed by the traditional Old Timers game with period uniforms and equipment. For more information call (405) 260-1342.

On Thursday, April 17 a free family movie night featuring “Field of Dreams” sponsored by the City of Guthrie will be shown at 7:30 p.m. at the Territorial Capital Sports Museum located at 315 West Oklahoma Avenue.

On Friday, starting at 5p.m. the Guthrie Kiwanis’ Club will host a “Big Wheel” race for kids ages 3-7.

Following those “Wheel” events, the Guthrie Noon Lions Club is sponsoring two bands and an old fashioned street dance at Oklahoma and Second Street.

Friday and Saturday nights feature a rodeo at the fairgrounds starting at 7:30 p.m.

The annual 89er Day Parade will begin at noon on Saturday, April 19 with Gov. Mary Fallin serving as the parade marshal.
