What started out as a one day event has now blossomed into a major relief effort for the tornado victims in several communities as students and citizens of Guthrie have come together to help.

On Tuesday, Guthrie High School teachers took two full buses of Red Cross approved items to the First Baptist Church in Moore. “They were so honored that our community and school organized so fast to deliver so much,” high school teacher Jody Webber said.

The next day they delivered a full bus of clothing to the Goodwill Site at SW 89th where they opened up 5000 square feet for the Red Cross Clothing Donations. Goodwill will clean them and distribute them to the victims free.

On the same day, a full bus of  Red Cross approved items were shipped to Shawnee.

“There we encountered an amazing situation where they treated us like superstars and blessed us while we were trying to bless them,” Webber said. “Awkwardly Cool! They had us take the bus out to the Trailer Park that was hit to drop off the donations directly to the victims It was amazing. Both Sad and Joyful. So many stories from survivors who were so thankful for all Guthrie had humbly done for them.”

However, the projects are still ongoing.

Donations can still be taken to the First Assembly of God located at 1900 S. Division. Contact April or Mike at 282-1556 if you want more info.

Also, First Christian Church, located at 402 E. Noble, is accepting donations. For more information at that site contact Jessica at 517-4488.

Both churches are taking these donations to Carney.
