The Guthrie High School baseball program continues its winning ways following a 27-13 spring that resulted in the 5A state tournament.

The high school team improved their record to 7-0 when they defeated Stillwater in the finals of the Perry Tournament on Saturday. The Jays defeated Blackwell and Perkins to earn the finals berth.

Earlier in the week, the Jays started the season with 9-1 and 5-4 wins over Dale. Sophomore-to-be Jacob Chappell highlighted the evening at the plate with a 3-run homer and a game winning hit in the second game. Evan Plagg and Dusty Cotton picked up the wins on the bump.

On the following night, Guthrie traveled to Blanchard and picked up two more wins.

For the Junior Jays, they improved to 7-2 on the young season after winning two of three games in the Cashion Tournament.

The young Jays tied for first in pool play, but due to tie breakers were handed the three seed for the final day of cross pool action. Guthrie got wins over Kingfisher and Washington with their only loss coming to 6A’s Putnam City North.

The Junior Jays will now prepare for their upcoming tournament when Cashion, Perkins, Stillwater, OKC Broncos and Putnam City West come to Squires Field for the four-day event. View the GSP home page for the pool play schedule.
