For the first time in the 2026 season, the Guthrie Bluejays will play in front of the home crowd Friday night as they welcome the Elgin Owls to Jelsma Stadium.
The Bluejays enter their home opener looking to bounce back from a 42-7 loss at Tuttle in Week 1. Guthrie is 0-1 on the season, while Elgin comes to town at 1-0 after an impressive 42-0 victory over Bethany.
Friday’s matchup brings together two Class 5A programs with high expectations entering the season.
Guthrie returned a number of experienced players this fall, led by senior quarterback Daelon Rice. The Bluejays will look for a much stronger showing after struggling to get things going offensively against Tuttle in the opener.
Elgin, meanwhile, had little trouble in its first game. The Owls jumped out to a strong start with the shutout victory over Bethany and will now make the trip north for their first road test of the season.
The matchup is a non-district contest, giving both teams another opportunity to prepare before district play becomes the focus later in the season.
For Guthrie, Friday night also marks the first opportunity of the season to play at Jelsma Stadium after opening the schedule on the road.
Fans unable to make it to the stadium can watch the game live on GNP TV. The broadcast begins with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
