High schools across the country are scrambling to find ways to honor their graduating classes. Guthrie administrators will show their appreciation with a light show on Friday night.

The school will honor the Class of 2020 by turning on the stadium lights at both Squires Field and Jelsma Stadium on Friday evening from 8:20 until 8:40.

The 8:20 time start is reflected by 2020 in military time to go along with 20 minutes that the lights will remain on.

“This tribute of solemnity is in recognition of their hard work and accomplishments and in no manner is intended to become a public gathering,” GHS Principal Chris LeGrande said in a letter to parents.

CDC guidelines remain in effect including social distancing and the prohibition of groups of 10 or more individuals.

“Please keep this in mind if you intend to drive by to witness the display. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” LeGrande added.

School administrators continue to search to find a formal graduation ceremony for next month.
