Guthrie softball regional site, field announced

Guthrie Softball will be heading to Duncan with the mind-set of making the state softball tournament. A place that has voided them over the years.

The Lady Jays learned they will be in the Duncan regional with the host Duncan team, Northwest Classen and Ardmore. The double elimination regional is set for Thursday and Friday.

Duncan and Northwest Classen will begin play on Thursday at noon and followed by Guthrie and Ardmore at 2 p.m. The losers of each game will play at 4 and the winners will square off at 6.

The overall winner of the regional will move on to the state tournament. Guthrie will be looling to punch their ticket for the first time since the late 1990’s.

Guthrie is currently 20-14 on the year under second-year head coach Lee Linsenmeyer and will be the No. 2 seeded team in the field.

A season ago, Guthrie finished with a 20-20 overall record after going 2-2 in the Lawton MacArthur regional. In 2010, Guthrie finished with a 14-23 and in 2009 were 12-20.

Duncan, who finished runner-up in their district (5A-2), enters the two-day regional with a 22-11 record, Ardmore is 6-20 and Northwest Classen is 3-13.

Duncan has taken down Ardmore each of the three times they met this season by a combined score of 27-3 and took down Northwest 13-0.

The Lady Jays, who finished third in their district (5A-1) handled Northwest both times in district play with 14-3 and 11-5 wins.

Game 1 – Duncan 9, Northwest Classen 2
Game 2 – Guthrie 12, Ardmore 5
Game 3 – NW Classen 6, Ardmore 5
Game 4 – Duncan 3, Guthrie 2

Duncan Regional – Friday, October 5th

Game 5 – Guthrie vs NW Classen – 12:00 p.m.
Game 6 -Winner Game 4 vs Winner Game 5- 2:00 p.m.
Game 7 – (if necessary) Winner Game 6 vs Loser Game 6 – 4:00 p.m.
