Guthrie did what they wanted to do and Ponca City did exactly what they did not want to do in their week two gridiron match-up.
The top-ranked BlueJays jumped out to a 29-0 halftime lead before winning their 16th straight with a 36-7 win over the 6A Wildcats. Guthrie improves to 2-0 while Ponca City drops to 0-2 on the young season.

Ponca City on their first play from scrimmage rolled their quarterback out and hit a receiver, but fumbled and eventually led to a three-yard touchdown run by senior J.T. McFadden and a two-point conversion by senior Richard Brothers.
Last week in a 34-14 loss to Sapulpa, Ponca City fumbled four times while being intercepted three times.
The BlueJay defense forced a Wildcat punt on their next possession which led to another score. This time the Jays needed just three plays to hit pay dirt when senior Bryan Dutton took the direct snap and ran behind his offensive line for a 29-yard touchdown score to go up 15-0 with 4:01 in the opening quarter.
Guthrie’s defense, who allowed their first score of the year late in the game, got on the scoreboard when sophomore defensive end L’liott Curry forced the Ponca quarterback to throw the ball a bit earlier then he wanted to from his own end zone and allowed Brothers to pick the pass and falling down in the end zone for six points. The extra point gave Guthrie a lead of 22-0 with over nine minutes to play in the first half.
The Ponca City offense struggled to move the ball for the majority of th game. The Guthrie defense allowed just 107 yards of offense, including 39 rushing yards.
Just six minutes later, the offense scored on a fourth down and goal play from their own 14-yard line. After a 13-yard sack, Dutton lobbed up a pass for Curry, who hauled it in to send the BlueJays into the locker room up 29-0.
The final Guthrie score came when Dutton found a wide-open senior Cody Reihs for a 25-yard pass and catch on the first possession of the third quarter.
Dutton completed 13-of-17 passes for 136 yards to go along with two passing and one rushing scores. On the ground, he added 80 yards on 10 carries en route to being named the F&M Bank Player of the Game.
Next up, Guthrie hosts Enid, who defeated Edmond Memorial to improve to 2-0.
