Guthrie woman dies in four-vehicle collision

A Guthrie woman died Friday morning in a four-vehicle crash in southern Logan County.

The accident took place just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of S. Sooner Road and E. Simmons Road.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2012 Ford Escape was traveling southbound on Sooner Road, while another vehicle was eastbound on Simmons Road at a stop attempting to turn southbound onto Sooner. Two other vehicles were northbound on Sooner at the stop sign.

That is when the Ford Escape failed to stop at the stop sign, struck a vehicle, entered into the northbound lanes and struck the two oncoming vehicles, according to troopers.

The driver of the Ford Escape, 87-year-old Alice E. Dowers, was pronounced dead at the scene by Guthrie EMS.

The other three drivers – all of Edmond – refused medical treatment at the scene.

Troopers currently have determined the cause of the collision and condition of the driver as “under investigation.”

All drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the wreck.
