January sales tax collection up 3.53%

The City of Guthrie saw another increase in sales tax collection when compared to last fiscal year. Four months into the fiscal year, the City has seen increases each month.

The January sales tax revenue, primarily sales in November, was up 3.53 percent, or $19,026 compared to January 2019.

The total amount collected in the month was $558,102.23.

In the first four months of the fiscal year (October – January), the City shows an increase in sales tax revenue of 4.74 percent ($101,147.90) compared to the same time in 2019.

In addition, the City’s use tax was up 12.80 percent, or $7,813.19 as compared to the same month last year.

The total amount collected for the month was $68,846.27.

The use tax dollars are collected from online shopping, including Amazon.com and by third-party vendors selling through Amazon, which began July 1, 2018.

The City shows an increase in the use tax of 41.37 percent accumulatively as compared to 2019. For the fiscal year (beginning in October), the use tax is up 17.23 percent.
