Junior Jays claim second straight golf tournament

The Guthrie Junior High boy’s golf team took first place in their own tournament on Thursday at Cedar Valley Golf Club.  The win marks the second tournament victory this week for the team.

The tournament was individual stroke-play with the four best scores being added up at the end of the round, and that total was compared with the other 15 teams who participated.

The Junior Jays carded a 325 to win first by nearly 50 shots, as the cold and blustery conditions proved difficult for most of the field.

Individually, Luke Roach fired a 73 to win going away, with his closest competition five strokes behind. Bo Robbins picked up third, Luke Morgan notched fifth and Brady Hirzel finished off the foursome with sixth place. Jaxon Hirzel’s number would prove to be good enough for a top-20, but was discarded in the four-score format.
