Tyler Kisner pitches complete game victory over Jones

Junior left-hander Tyler Kisner picked up his first win on the mound this season by holding Jones to just one run on Thursday afternoon.

After a somewhat slow start, Guthrie got going offensively and finished with an 8-1 win in just under two hours. The win marks the second victory over Jones in eight days for the Bluejays. The Jays improve to 9-2 on the year while Class 3A’s seventh-ranked Longhorns fall to 4-4.

In the bottom of the first inning, Evan Kowalski, who had two runs driven in on the day, got a ground ball RBI out to plate Camden Wilcott to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.

A lead the Jays would never surrender.

Wilcott finished the afternoon by reaching base all four times highlighted by a RBI single in the fifth inning.

Jones tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth by taking advantage of two hits.

Guthrie took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs, added three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Dalton Graybeal proved to be worthy at the plate by delivering two singles and a run scored.

In seven innings of work, Kisner (1-1) scattered six hits while striking out six Longhorns. Kisner surrender 11 ground ball outs to go with two fly ball outs.

Guthrie will host Kingisher, Chandler and El Reno on Saturday for a total of four games. The Jays begin the day with a 10 a.m. pitch with Kingfisher and followed by Kingfisher taking on Chandler, Chandler and El Reno and then at approximately 4:45 the Jays conclude the day with El Reno.
