Lady Jays fall in third place tournament game

It seems to come down to one-quarter for the Guthrie girls basketball team that separates the game, and the second quarter proved to be that quarter on the final day of the Duncan Chisholm Trail Holiday Shoot Out.

In the third place game, Guthrie dropped a 41-31 decision to 5A’s 11th ranked Tahlequah Tigers to drop their season record to 1-5.

Guthrie, who was playing without the services of senior guard Mikaela Murillo due to an injured ankle, led 8-5 after the first eight minutes of the game. However, Tahlequah erupted for 17 points and held the Lady Jays to just 6 points and had a 22-14 lead at the break.

Both teams struggled to find points in the third quarter (5 each) before finding more success in the fourth, but it was not enough for Guthrie.

Leading Scorers: Melinda Murillo 16, Kamber Smedley 6, Gracynn Smith 5, Dalynn Porter 4
