Bartels, an 8th grade student at Guthrie Junior High, earned his position on the Oklahoma team in the bull riding competition. The rodeo is set for Gallup, New Mexico June 23 to the 29th.

On Monday, donuts from Missy’s were being sold at the Guthrie Police Department, Guthrie Fire Department and Oak Cliff Fire Department to help raise money for the trip.

In addition for competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, NJHFR contestants will also be vying for more than $100,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named Junior High Finals Rodeo National Champion. To earn the title, contestants must finish in the top 20 and advance to the Saturday finals.

The Saturday championships will be televised nationally as a part of the CinchTown Tour telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each NJHFR performance will also air online at NHSRATV.com. Times are set for 7 p.m.

The event will feature more than 1,000 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia. The NJHFR is the world’s largest junior high rodeo.
