Logan County Historical Society: Beyond Statehood hosting 2nd Annual Picnic in the Park on June 2

Beyond Statehood is focused on preserving and telling Logan County’s story beyond statehood. For those of you who are not familiar with the Logan County Historical Society, their mission is to preserve the history of Logan County and its people.  We conduct historical programming throughout Logan County and we have recently launched our new website www.logancountyhistoricalsociety.org.

Last year’s picnic was held in Mineral Wells Park, where guests enjoyed a barbecue dinner while they heard stories of the park’s exciting past.

Can you image a time when thousands of visitors crowded Mineral Wells Park? In the 1890s the park, known as Island Park, was operated by a series of entertainment management companies who booked numerous attractions to bring people to the park. Each summer there were concerts, plays, conventions, picnics, and more.  In 1910, thousands more flocked to the park with the discovery of the mineral well waters.

This year we will be celebrating Highland Park on Thursday, June 2 at 6 p.m.  Rain date is June 9. A picnic dinner will be available for a donation of $10 a person. The picnic will be held in Highland Park. Dinner tickets are available at www.logancountyhistoricalsociety.org or by calling 405-282-6000 ex 4.
