Veterans honored as more brick pavers placed at Honor Park

Recently, 22 brick pavers were added to the Honor Park Veterans Memorial in Guthrie. Pat Anglin was present to see six more pavers placed in a “family grouping” she has coordinated.

“It is just such a nice tribute to those who have served and a wonderful reminder of what we owe these men and women who have worn the military uniforms of our county,” Anglin said. “At this memorial, I have honored my grandfather, my father, uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, nephews and now my husband. I am so pleased and proud that they are recognized at this special place with a nice and lasting tribute.”

Also present for the adding of these pavers were relatives of Floyd Bradford, a veteran of World War II and long time Guthrie resident with ancestors who came to Guthrie during the Land Run of 1889.  Barbara Higgins, daughter; Christina Adams, granddaughter; and Crystal Hurst, great-granddaughter helped lay the brick and share some memories of Pvt Bradfort’s service in the Philippines during World War II. Barbara remarked about how he didn’t talk much about his service but was proud to have served his country. They were all proud that he could be honored in this manner and at this place.

The Guthrie American Legion LeBron Post 58 maintains the memorial as a tribute to all veterans with a focus on veterans from Logan County.

American Legion Post Commander LeRoy Barnes noted, “There are over 700 veterans recognized at this memorial.  We are pleased and proud to be able to provide this beautiful setting and lasting memory of women and men who have proudly served our country!”

The brick pavers honor any veteran and may be purchased at the American Legion Post for $40. The Legion also maintains a complete listing of those veterans named on the pavers.  For more information about this special tribute and recognition call the American Legion at 282-2589.
