Man found asleep in stolen vehicle with outstanding warrants

For the second time in less than a year, a Guthrie man is facing a charge dealing with a stolen vehicle. This time, Guthrie police officers woke him up inside the stolen vehicle.

Last Thursday, officers were tipped that a possible stolen truck had been located near the intersection of Walnut and Lincoln in tall grass.

As officers approached the vehicle at 5:22 a.m., they found 19-year-old Brett Cleveland Jenkins sleeping inside. He was taken into custody after the 1981 GMC truck indeed came back as stolen.

The truck was reported stolen from a Guthrie greenhouse the previous day.

In the back of the truck, stolen items were recovered, including a battery charger, a weed eater, air compressor, generator, ratchet set, two gas cans and a shovel.

To aid the police in their investigation, an iPhone and pair of boots were found. The boot threads reportedly matched the loose dirt at the greenhouse.

On Tuesday, he was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and knowingly concealing stolen property. In addition, Jenkins had two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in each of his previous cases.

In March, he was charged for misdemeanor trespassing inside a Guthrie business. Related story: Four suspects caught, arrested in basement of business

Prior to that, in February, Jenkins completed the Regimented Inmate Discipline (RID) program with confinement at the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center. He was placed there after pleading guilty to four charges after going on a crime spree in 2015. Related story: Jenkins pleads guilty to crime spree charges; second suspect asks judge for ruling
