Man pleads guilty to possession of child pornography; sentencing set for this summer

A 29-year-old man has pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of child pornography following a multi-agency investigation that began in 2023.

Wyatt James Bartels entered a blind plea in December and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11 at 9 a.m. in Logan County.

The case began when a Stillwater Police detective assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force received a cyber tip about an email account being used to upload child sexual abuse material to Google Chat. Subsequent reports were also generated by Snapchat and Discord, with court documents describing one of the images as depicting a “prepubescent female.”

Further investigation, including assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), revealed at least 468 files of child sexual abuse material connected to Bartels. One of the victims was reportedly located in Russia.

Bartels has remained in custody at the Logan County Jail since his arrest and is being held on a $250,000 bond. A second charge, violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act, was dismissed as part of the proceedings.

The court will determine Bartels’ punishment during the sentencing hearing this summer.
