Mike Turpen to headline Guthrie Educational Foundation fundraising event

The Guthrie Educational Foundation provides grants, scholarships and awards to Guthrie teachers to enrich the academic curricula and resources available to students enrolled in the Guthrie Public Schools. On February 5, the foundation will host their annual fundraising event with a well-known guest speaker.

Guthrie Educational FoundationThe foundation, an independently operated non-profit organization, announced Mike Turpen will speak at the event held at the Dominion House in Guthrie from 7 to 9 p.m. and will include a buffet dinner.

Turpen served as the Chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party and as the Attorney General of Oklahoma from 1983 to 1987. After leaving the Attorney General’s Office, Turpen entered private practice. He was appointed by Governor of Oklahoma Brad Henry in 2009 to serve as member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Turpen’s nine-year term will expire in May 2018.

“Everyone knows Mike. He is a longtime supporter of Oklahoma with an emphasis on education in Oklahoma. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening,” a foundation spokesperson said.

Corporate tables are available for $1,250 and individual tickets are $100 per person. The funds raised will assist the foundation in efforts to support the Guthrie Public Schools. Tickets can be obtained from the Administrative Office (802 E. Vilas), Laverne Downing at Bancfirst or Don Hardin at Oklahoma State Bank.

A silent auction is also planned for the evening.
