Murder victim identified; mother reaches out for help

A mother is seeking answers in the murder of her son that took place in the early morning hours on Guthrie’s east side. More importantly, she’s looking for comfort.

“Pray for my family. Pray for my sanity. I lost a son today,” the mother of Joey Angelo posted on Facebook approximately five hours after her son was shot and killed.

“I love you to the moon and back Joey Angelo! May God wrap you in his arms and keep you til [sic] I see you again. Always in my heart. I can’t believe this is happening.”

Police say Angelo, 24, was shot 36 times and was found on the front porch at the home of 312 S. Oak.

Angelo, who leaves a young daughter, was rushed to OU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

So far, police have not made any arrests in the case, but are following up with several leads in both Logan and Oklahoma counties.

“I’m his mother. Trying to bring my son home from Oklahoma to lay him to rest,” the mother posted on the gofundme page. “He was murdered. Anything helps. Any money left over will go to help the less fortunate. I’m a firm believer in faith and justice. God bless.”

I very seriously doubt the victim was “shot 36 times.” He might have been hit with 36 pellets from a shotgun shell (or shells) but shot 36 separate times is not believable. This is either ignorance or sensationalism on the part of the reporter.

    • Feel free to shove your unwarranted, unsolicited and insensitive opinion directly back where it came from. Unless you plan to hop into a time machine and stand next to him ( or preferably in front of him) to count each one, then by all means carry on. But in the mean time we are grieving the loss of a young man who was a father, a friend, a brother, and a son…. Perhaps we could focus on that rather than your bullet counting crusade? That would be swell, thanks.

  2. Thank you for all your help. I’m just a mom grieving for her son. I want to bring him home one last time….

  3. Wow, Lonny! Is it necessary to post that on here?!! Kind of a jerk.

  4. Mrs. Walters, I’m sorry, for your loss. I, personally did not know this young man, but, I, can only imagine what it is like to loose a child. I, pray that the Lord, will give you his guidance, comfort, and protection during this during this difficult time. May God bless you, and keep you.

  5. Hey Lonnie, your a special kind disgusting. Aren’t you?

  6. I was in my backyard the night joey got killed taking a piss. I heard what sounded like blackcats going off at the same time which is infact what I had assumed that it was until I was taking my son to school the next morning and seen the block taped off. If you don’t believe he was brutally murdered by 36 shots you clearly didn’t hear what I heard. I’m sorry his baby and family have to suffer through this. My prayers are with you all.

  7. Well look here idk about y’all but one of those suspects is innocent and that’s just as bad as being killed are any of y’all feeling bad for Reggie Smith’s mom she is living without her son to and fyi clearly if someone was shot 36 he would be in pieces and if the da had comman sense or any of those judges they would think if Reggie Smith’s was going to kill someone he would had in his younger days when he lived a harder life so to the grieving mother are u ok with a innocent man set in prison for a crime he didn’t do just because he is related to the others
