OSSAA hires Alex Claussen as Assistant Director

(Oklahoma City, OK) The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association is excited to announce the hiring of Alex Claussen as an Assistant Director. Claussen will replace Mike Plunkett, who will be retiring in July after 21 years as the Performing and Fine Arts Administrator at the OSSAA.

Claussen’s responsibilities will include providing leadership to and the coordination of OSSAA Music, Speech, Debate and Drama programs. Claussen comes to the OSSAA from Bartlesville High School where he has served as the Director of Bands, Instrumental Music Supervisor and Fine Arts Chair for 14 years. Claussen has a total of 26 years in education with stops at Duncan High School, Sapulpa High School and Cameron University. Claussen has had the honor of being the President for three statewide organizations – Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association.

Claussen brings years of experience in teaching, leadership and hosting of OSSAA events to his new position along with a personable approach to leading people.

Executive Director David Jackson said, “We are thrilled to be able to add such a gifted, accomplished, and well[1]respected music educator to our staff. We have been fortunate to have Mike Plunkett serve the past 21 years as our Director of the Performing and Fine Arts, and we’re confident that Mr. Claussen will continue the great work Mike started and will serve our students and schools at the highest level.”

Claussen and his wife, Amitia, have two daughters. Abbie is a sophomore elementary music education major at UCO and Katie is a freshman in high school. Employment for Claussen begins on July 1, 2022
