Overnight freezing drizzle causes several accidents, school closings

Roadways across Logan County became hazardous due to freezing drizzle and dropping temperatures early Wednesday morning.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Guthrie Fire Department began responding to several accidents on Interstate 35 and county roads shortly after 3 a.m.

The first of many accidents took place on the Cimarron River bridge on I-35 near the Logan and Payne county line. One person was taken to OU Medical Center.

The Guthrie Police Department was forced to shut down the I-35 northbound off ramp due to icy conditions for a few hours.

Unfortunately, a box top truck did not fare well on the off ramp as it collided and came to a stop on the guardrail (pictured above).

Majority of the accidents reported did not need medical attention, including a school bus that slid off the roadway partially at Seward Road and Midwest Blvd. There were no children on the bus at the time.

Crescent and Cashion schools canceled classes for Wednesday.

According to weather reports, the freezing rain will continue throughout Wednesday causing road ways to be hazardous.
