Parking dispute before local attorney goes on trial

Bookmark and Share

It was not the usual start for a trial Tuesday morning at the Logan County Courthouse.

Jury selection for the case between the state of Oklahoma versus Jay Trenary was set to begin at 9:00 a.m., but a parking dispute in front of the courthouse delayed the process.

Trenary, a local attorney who is representing himself in the case, is facing two misdemeanor charges  for domestic abuse and obstructing an officer. The crimes were alleged to have occurred last May at his Guthrie home.

Before jurors could be selected, Special District Judge R.L. Hert asked for Trenary to be present in the courtroom to begin. The judge asked Trenary’s co-counsel attorney to bring the defendant back into the courtroom. Moments later, both attorney’s returned and requested to speak privately with the judge and the state attorney’s.

All parties involved, including the judge, were then seen leaving the courtroom and just outside the front steps of the courthouse.

The Guthrie Police Department received calls about a truck illegally parked in front of the courthouse. The truck belonged to Trenary and was found parked in two parking spots facing the east instead of the custom parking pattern.

According to witnesses, Trenary planned to use the truck as evidence and wanted jurors to have the ability to walk around the truck. Trenary refused to move the vehicle.

However, police officials wanted the truck to be parked legally.

The accused victim in the domestic abuse case, was seen in the back of the truck protesting the police about the move of the vehicle. Trenary and the alleged victim continue to be in a relationship, where she denies the assault and battery ever took place.

After the judge was seen talking with police officers for several minutes, the judge ordered Trenary to park the the truck legally, in which, Trenary obeyed.

All parties reported back to the courtroom with the jury selection officially beginning at 9:30 a.m.

  1. This is an entertaining article with a great photo of the illegally parked truck being surrounded by law enforcement.

  2. Only in Guthrie!!! So if this woman in the back of the truck denies abuse – why is he being charged ? I wonder if they all took that opportunity to have a quick smoke? hahahaha!

  3. The carnival leaves town and the circus moves in…………..

  4. Even if the accuser gets cold feet, the state can still file charges if there’s enough evidence.

Those two deserve each other … Both are bat shit crazy.

  5. It does make the State’s case harder to prove if they have an unwilling witness.

I am with Jarred, these two deserve one-another. I spoke to a gentleman who was working on the house Trenary used to live in, and that man, I think his name was Bill, said that Trenary flipped him off, cursed at him and was very abusive. And, that on another incident, chased him through town over 80mph…..Bill said the Trenary looked out of his mind.

  7. This is a madman. He has to be moving out-of-town with his loser girlfriend. No one could actually be interested in having him as their attorney! Well, at least being fined 500.00 will take some of what little fun money he has away. I am sure he has been to several of the local pawn shops to raise money for hotel bills. (unless his girlfriends parents are foolish enough to help again). Classic Lindsey in the back of the pick up. haha. So predictable. Question. Why are attorneys not subject to random drug tests as “agents” of the courts? Are there too many who abuse? What about Judges? Trenary…what a complete idiot. Park his truck sideways. Always wants attention. I bet he bawled like a baby the night he was in jail. He wouldn’t even walk into jail. Had to be carried by three officers.

How do you think the charges got ‘placed’ to begin with? It’s all public record…Lindsey needs to stand up for the truth and for her own safety. If she doesn’t, no one will. The only one losing is her…and now her children. They will be raised learning to lie about what happens to them and that it’s okay for a man to abuse a woman…should be child abuse if you ask me.
