Police investigate threat made toward high school

An inappropriate comment made by a juvenile on social media resulted in the police being called to investigate Thursday at Guthrie High School.

GHS Principal Dusty Throckmorton sent an email to parents on Thursday morning stating, “We want to inform you about an incident that has come to our attention this morning. Earlier today, we received a notification from a concerned parent regarding a threat made involving a potential bomb on our school premises.”

Guthrie News Page immediately reached out to Sgt. Anthony Gibbs with the Guthrie Police Department who said there was never a device found and that the juvenile made the comment on Snapchat.

Throckmorton said the school had taken immediate action by involving local law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the situation.

A concerned parent reported the comment.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the parent who brought this information to our attention,” the principal said. “Their vigilance and commitment to the safety of our school community are greatly appreciated.

“We understand that situations like this can be unsettling, and we appreciate your patience and support during this time,” Throckmorton said. “Rest assured that we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.”
