State Sen. AJ Griffin will hold leadership positions on two key committees during the 55th Legislature.  Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman named Griffin, R-Guthrie, to serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Energy Committee, as well as Vice Chair of the Health Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human services.

“I want to thank President Pro Tempore Bingman for these leadership positions.  Oklahoma is an energy state, and it has played a vital role not only in shaping our economy, but in helping to make our nation more energy independent,” Griffin said.  “As Vice Chair of the Energy Committee, I will help determine critical public policy decisions impacting the energy sector.”

Griffin said as Vice Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, she’ll be working on the financial side of issues impacting some of the state’s core services.

“I believe we must continue to approach budget decisions with an eye on being the best stewards of public resources possible.  We must always ask if we are getting the best outcomes possible for the dollars we invest—if we aren’t, then we need to look at what we need to do to make that happen,” Griffin said.  “This fiscally conservative approach is especially critical when we are talking about limited resources.”

In addition, Griffin has been tapped to serve as a voting member of the Senate Standing Committee on Health and Human Services, Judiciary, Rules, and on the full Appropriations Committee.  She was also recently chosen to serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Caucus.

The first session of the 55th Legislature will convene on January 6, 2015, to elect leadership and adopt rules.  The session will reconvene on February 2, 2015.
