Six officers graduate CLEET; three officers with GPD

The Guthrie Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Langston University each welcomed new officers to their department from their certified training.

Guthrie Police Chief Don Sweger and members of the police department were in attendance for the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) ceremony held inside the Nicoma Park Training Center on Wednesday.

Graduates of the academy for GPD, include Zachary Gales, Austin Meredith and Filemon Vasquez, Jr. The Sheriff’s Office was represented by Kevin Perrone and Eric Campbell and Erick Gil with Langston University.

Gales received the Top Gun Award from the class (A1506 NP) for his sharp shooting skills.

Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel was this year’s guest speaker.

Established in 1963, CLEET helps support Oklahoma law enforcement communities, including enhancing public safety by providing education and training to help promote professionalism and enhance competency within the ranks of Oklahoma law enforcement.

The Academy is 576 hours of instruction and testing. This includes extraordinary physical training in the defensive tactics, firearms, traffic and investigations.
