The Guthrie Lady Jays softball team took part in the WIN-WIN WEEK in a double header with Western Heights, Thursday evening, at the softball field.

The Lady Jays collected two wins to snap their two game losing streak. Guthrie is currently 11-18 on the season and ranked 19th in Class 5A.

Win Win week is a collaboration between the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association and the OU Cancer Institute.

Guthrie is competing for a state championship trophy issued by the OSSAA for most successful cancer prevention and fundraising programs with other schools. Student-athletes, student council members,  cheerleaders, spirit squad members, marching band members and other student leaders have help prevent cancer and raise funds to help cancer patients from all over Oklahoma.

In the first game of the varsity double-header, Guthrie made quick work of the Lady Jets in a 13-3 win, but the second game was a slugfest between the two north division teams.

Western Heights came across for 14-runs, but Guthrie’s offense was able to stay ahead of the Jets and scored 22 runs in the win.

Earlier in the week, the softball’ers dropped a division game to Deer Creek, 8-1, and an out of conference game with Kingfisher 11-6. The Lady Jays are scheduled for seven more games of the regular season in the next two weeks before regional play begins. Next up are the Carl Albert Titans on the road Monday afternoon before returning home Tuesday and taking on Crescent.
