Sport of Kings Challenge benefits Thoroughbred Athletes

The Sport of Kings Challenge horse show, held annually at Remington Park benefits Thoroughbred Athletes, an Oklahoma non-profit organization that rehabilitates and retrains off the track thoroughbreds with community youth involvement. This event showcases retired racehorses, highlighting the versatility and the talent they bring to a new home in a second career.

The 2015 event offers internationally recognized equestrian talent serving as clinicians, as well as in the judges’ booth. USEA competitor Laine Ashker will be conducting an eventing clinic as well as serving as  a distinguished judge. Joining Ms. Ashker in the judge’s stand is Steuart Pittman, founder of the Retired Racehorse Training Project, and Robin Hessl, USDF Bronze and Silver medalist.  We are honored and so very proud to have such a distinguished judging panel for our competitors.

The annual benefit show boasts hunter and jumper events; dressage; western dressage; barrel racing; trail classes as well as an eventing derby with over $10,000 added prize money.  Equestrians’ nation-wide will converge on Remington Park to vie for purse money. Eventers and spectators may visit www.sportofkingschallenge.com to obtain entry forms and other pertinent show information.

All proceeds benefit local non-profit, Thoroughbred Athletes from Guthrie Oklahoma. Established in 2011, the organization has been assisting at risk, as well as responsibly retired thoroughbreds in finding new homes and careers through their unique retraining program. Unfortunately, many thoroughbreds end up at low end auctions, or in feedlots, after their career on the race track is over. Thoroughbred Athletes’ unique program provides an alternative to that fate. In 2014, thanks to the Thoroughbred Athlete program, 33 thoroughbreds were spared that fate, and the same number of horses found new homes and careers. Utilization of the organization’s youth program in the retraining and exhibition of these horses provides confidence and experience, as well as enhancing the likelihood of adoption for the horse.
