Sports Museum to honor Jake Zserdin, Minor League Baseball

The Territorial Capital Sports Museum will be recognizing a local bull rider and some of the all-time greats to play baseball with planned events.

A reception is set for March 21 for Jake Zserdin as he will be donating his championship belt buckle and spurs for display. Zserdin was crowned the 2017 National Finals Rodeo Junior Bull Riding champion. Related articleGuthrie’s Jake Zserdin takes second in the world at NLBRA

A representative from the Little Britches Association is expected to be in attendance.

The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m.

As part of the Guthrie 89’er Celebration, the sports museum will recognize the history of Minor League Baseball in Oklahoma.

Peter Pierce is the author of the Baseball in the Cross Timbers – The Story of the Sooner State League (a professional baseball league from 1947 to 1957) will be at the museum and has donated a good number of the books to the Sports Museum along with some 50 jerseys from teams of the Sooner State League.

Following the Sooner State League, the Oklahoma City 89ers brought Minor League Baseball back to Oklahoma.

Richard Hendricks says they will have representatives from that era, including Jim Weigel, General Manager Don Demeter, Vice President Jim Gentile and others.
