Storms roll through county leaving damage

Round one of two weather storms swept through Logan County Tuesday evening leaving fields on fire and downed trees. More storms are expected Wednesday.

County fire departments responded to several grass fires believed to be have started by lighting. The largest grass fire came around 8:30 p.m. at County Road 72 and Hiwassee. Crews not only had to deal with the fires, but muddy roads with their heavy equipment.

Guthrie Police were dispatched to several areas for down tree limbs covering city streets. A wrecker was called in to help assist with one tree in the roadway.

The Street Department was also called in and were seen Wednesday morning cleaning up the debris left behind from the storm.

One power line was reported down on the city’s west side on Washington Street.

The mesonet showed .31 of an inch rain in the Guthrie area, but eastern and southern parts of the county received higher amounts. In addition, the mesonet showed a max wind gust of 70 mph – the second highest reading in the state.
