Truck engulfed with flames on I-35

A Payne County couple was able to escape out of their pickup truck on Sunday afternoon after it caught fire on Interstate 35.

The Guthrie Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 5:20 p.m. and needed less than 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.

Once crews arrived on the scene, flames could be seen shooting out all around the vehicle.

The couple from Glencoe was traveling north on the interstate when the Ford truck’s engine caught fire on the shoulder of the roadway less than a mile from the north Guthrie exit.

Traffic was backed up, but was never at stand still. However, a minor accident did occur as the vehicles were merging to the inside lane.

There were no injuries reported at the scene and the couple was escorted by a Logan County deputy to a nearby store.
