The Ty Nichols Heart of a Champion Memorial Blood Drive has been set for Tuesday, June 14th, at the First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center.

The blood drive is from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. It is recommended to make an appointment in advance if you are on a time schedule. Appointments can be made by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or 282-1194.

The Red Cross is asking for appointments to be made due to being understaffed at last years drive.

If anyone is unable to attend the blood drive in Guthrie, they can set an appointment on the 14th of June at any Red Cross blood donation center and inform them it is for the Ty Nichols Memorial Blood Drive.

Everyone who donates blood will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, that includes two VIP passes and two backstage tours to the Grand Ole Opry, two night stay at the Opryland Hotel and a $300 gift card.

Nichols passed away unexpectedly on June 21st 2008 due to an enlarged heart. It was an unknown condition that doctors said he’d had since birth. He was 16 years old and is the son of Phil and Tonya Nichols.

Ty, who was a member of the 2007 state championship Guthrie football team, started six games his sophomore year, at defensive back, and played in all 14 games.
