Watch: Melanie Ball named GPS District Teacher of the Year

In front of a full board room, Cotteral Elementary teacher Melanie Ball was named the District Teacher of the Year for Guthrie Public Schools.

The third grade teacher was first named as Cotteral’s Site Teacher of the Year along with Elementary Teacher of the Year.

The announcement was made during the Board of Education meeting.

Ball has 21 years of teaching experience, including 17 years in Guthrie.

“I create a safe environment for my students,” Ball says of her classroom. 

“I lead activities that promote cooperation, respect (for each other and themselves), and hopefully build their self-esteem.”

Tyler Young, who teaches computer applications at Guthrie High School, was named the district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year.
