Watch: Jimmy Christensen named GPS Student of the Month

Second grade student Jimmy Christensen looked sharp in his sports coat and tie as he received the Student of the Month for Guthrie Public Schools at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting.

Jimmy, who enjoys baseball and hanging out with his sister, attends Central Elementary and was nominated by his reading teacher Lesley Cotton for the character trait of kindness.

“Jimmy walks through my door everyday with a beaming smile on his face and a polite greeting,” his teacher said. “His kindness, strong work ethic and perseverance are exactly what comes in a model student such as Jimmy.”

Cotton added Jimmy is not only helpful in the classroom, but throughout the school building.

“He fills my days with joy.”

Guthrie Public Schools and Blake Wimsey (pictured left) with Foundation Insurance have teamed up for the third straight year to honor students for the character traits. Teachers and faculty select students who have displayed behavior deserving of recognition.

For her efforts, Wimsey presented Jimmy with a $60 gift card to Stacy’s Place.

Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.
