Watch: U.S. Navy sailor returns home to surprise family

A Guthrie family is counting their blessings this week with their entire family home for the holidays. It did not appear that was going to be the case, but a U.S. Navy sailor made an unexpected trip home to surprise his family during Sunday’s church fellowship.

First Christian Church ended their service with a special edition of “Count Your Many Blessings.” T.J. Wilson, who is based out of Naval Stations Great Lakes (north of Chicago), recorded a thank you video from his Navy ship for his family and church members for the holiday season.

At the end of the video, Wilson wished his brother a happy 14th birthday and thanked the congregation for their continued support.

After the video ended, Pastor Ronnie Fields requested the congregation to sing happy birthday. During the song, Wilson appeared from the back of the sanctuary to surprise his family, including his parents Kevin and Jana Frey.

“Going to be a great Thanksgiving!!! All my boys are here,” Jana Frey said in a social media post.

Wilson, who joined the Navy in February, found out late last week that his request for leave was approved for Thanksgiving.

Welcome home, Sailor.
