Day two of the Deer Creek Classic had another 6A opponent for the Guthrie baseball team with the Westmoore Jaguars.

Westmoore posted a, 12-4, six inning run-rule win over the Jays. The Jags, who are ranked No. 9 in Class 6A, improve to 21-11 while the 5A Jays ranked No. 6th fall to 20-9.

Guthrie will return to Deer Creek for a 4:00 start with conference foe El Reno. The Jays have taken both regular season games from the Indians (13-4, 7-4) in early March. A BlueJay win likely sets them up with Norman North on Saturday, another 6A foe.

Westmoore crossed a run in the first inning, but the Jays countered with three of their own in the home half of the first to take a 3-1 lead. However, the visitors took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning and opened the game with five runs in the fourth inning before scratching a run in both the fifth and sixth. Guthrie managed one more run in the fifth.

Bryan Dutton, Landry Chappell, and Luke Davis each added two hits, including Chappell connecting for his fifth home run this season. With the round tripper, Chappell added a double and brought in three runs.

The Jays started Hayden Seifert on the mound and countered with Evan Plagg in the fourth inning. Both pitched three innings each and combined to allow 9 earned runs in the game.
