Wildfire engulfs two homes on Tuesday; support page to help victims

Guthrie fire officials say a windmill motor was the cause of a wildfire in southern Logan County on Tuesday resulting in two homes being destroyed by flames.

Fire crews from Logan County responded to the area of Deer Lane and Brandon road, which is near the intersection of Charter Oak and Broadway, just after 1:30 p.m. The threat forced several homes to be evacuated. Related article: Wildfire burning in southern Logan County

The fire consumed a total of 52 acres and two mobile homes. In a separate fire to the south on Sherwood Lane, a third home was engulfed with flames.

The wildfire threaten a nearby horse ranch, but firefighters were able to save the large structure. However, other smaller structures could not be saved from the fire that was pushed by the southern winds that gusts over 40 mph.

As firefighters fought from the ground, aerial support was called in with two Blackhawk helicopters, which could be seen dumping thousands of gallons of water onto the burning homes.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A GoFundMe has been set up for one of the affected families.
