The 68th Guthrie City Council was officially sworn into office last week, marking a new chapter for the city’s leadership.
Municipal Judge David Hood administered the oath of office to Adam Ropp, Menecca Gibbs, Jeff Taylor, and Tracy Williams in front of a packed council chamber filled with citizens, family, and friends.
Adam Ropp, who previously represented Ward 1 and ran unopposed, now steps into the role of Mayor for a two-year term. As Guthrie’s 54th mayor, Ropp delivered a three-minute acceptance speech before officially beginning the council meeting. He closed the evening with a brief history lesson on Guthrie’s past mayors, highlighting the youngest, shortest-serving, and longest-serving individuals to hold the position.
After the meeting, a private reception was held for Ropp, allowing those to offer their congratulations and share in the celebration of his new role.
With Ropp moving into the mayor’s seat, the Ward 1 council position is now vacant. The city is accepting applications for the remainder of the two-year term. Once the application window closes, the council will review the submissions, conduct interviews, and appoint a new member to fill the role.
Menecca Gibbs joined the council after winning a contested race for Ward 1, replacing Kaley Mills, who chose not to seek re-election.
Jeff Taylor, first elected in 2013, begins his fourth term on the council. Tracy Williams also begins a new term—his second—after running unopposed alongside Taylor.
