The Deer Creek Antlers baseball team are well on their way to hosting another regional this season as they attempt to make the state tournament for the fifth straight season. In the process, they have not lost to a Oklahoma team this year and that trend continued on Monday.

Guthrie traveled to Edmond and was run-ruled by the Antlers in five innings 8-0. Deer Creek has now 16 run-rule’s under their belt as they improve to 21-4 and Guthrie falls to 19-8. The Antlers entered the game ranked No. 2 in Class 5A and the Jays were ranked No. 6.

Deer Creek has taken both regular season games with the win after posting a 7-4 win, at Squires Field, on March 25th.

Deer Creek ace, Michael Fulmer, pitched all five innings and allowed just a total of five BlueJay base runners and in the process collected 9 of the 15 outs via the strike out. Fulmer, who has signed to play with Arkansas next season, is expected to be selected in the upcoming Major League Baseball draft.

Guthrie’s Landry Chappell recorded a double in the second inning while Donovan Jordan collected a single in the third for the only two hits. The Jays only threat to score was in the top of the fifth when they left the bases loaded.

Hunter Gates suffered the loss by allowing seven hits and six earned runs. Five of the eight runs came in the second inning and the last three runs came across in the third.

Both Deer Creek and Guthrie will take part in the Deer Creek Tournament beginning this Wednesday and concluding on Saturday with a round robin field of two pools. Pool A consists of Deer Creek, Norman North, Noble, and Miami and Pool B includes Guthrie, Edmond North, Westmoore, and El Reno.
