Back to the classrooms for Guthrie students

Students were seen skipping to school for the first day of the 2015-16 school year on Thursday morning. Students were not only greeted with cooler temperatures, but greeted by a staff member at the door. Some were even given out fist pumps.

The unusual weather had some students wearing a jacket as they kicked off their new school year, but that did not halt the excitement.

Once inside, students were given a tour of their new school to become comfortable in their school building.

As the tradition continues, the senior class was escorted from the Masonic Temple to the high school led by the Guthrie Police Department.

Not only were the students excited about their day so was the parents and grandparents.

Social social media was flooded with back to school photos and best wishes.

As expected, the first day of school and generally in the first week, traffic played a factor to and from school.

Supt. Dr. Mike Simpson said, “Many parents are unfamiliar with the drop off and pick up procedures and usually more students are brought to school by their parents on the first day. When you compound this with the traditional high school parade of students from the Masonic Temple, you always have a challenge on day one.”

“All in all, it was a great start,” Simpson said.
