Just before 4 p.m., the Guthrie Fire Department was dispatched to the 1400 block of N. Broad for a structure fire.

As firefighters arrived, smoke could be seen coming from a front bedroom on the south side of the home. With water hoses, neighbors were seen trying to put the fire out, but with no luck as the smoke continued to build.

Firefighters needed a few minutes to get control of the fire and to keep the area contained from spreading to other portions of the home.

A family member tells Guthrie News Page a candle fell over onto a pile of clothes, which sparked the fire and spread to a nearby mattress.

Along with the charred bedroom, portions of the house suffered water and smoke damage.

When the fire call came through, the fire department was working an injury accident on I-35 and requested Coyle and Oak Cliff fire departments for additional resources. They remained on scene until 5:23.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.

A gofundme page has been set up.
