Chief Sweger named next President of Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police

At the conclusion of the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Annual Meeting today, Guthrie Police Chief Don Sweger was named the new President of the Association. Sweger has served on the OACP Executive Board since 2005 before rising to this top position.

Sweger has been Chief in Guthrie for eight years after serving in multiple capacities since starting his law enforcement career in 1994.

Sweger stated that he is “honored to have professional personnel, a city government, and a wonderful community that supports worthwhile professional endeavors and is excited to make them all very proud.”

During his presidency, Sweger says he “hopes to build upon the strong ethical foundation that was forged before him, which ensures that Oklahoma law enforcement has access to the best training, highest standards and a strong voice with the legislature. Oklahoma Police Chiefs are some of the nation’s best, most resourceful, and caring professionals.”

“I am excited to work with Chief Sweger in accomplishing the lofty goals he has for Oklahoma law enforcement and the organization during his Presidency,” said Executive Director Steve Whitlock.

The OACP is the largest law enforcement executive and administrative association in Oklahoma. They were incorporated in 1984 and currently have 302 members that came from many facets of professional agencies and departments throughout the state. Their main goal is to foster strong ethical standards and a commitment of professional conduct in law enforcement through education, professional training, communications and improving laws that protect the citizens of communities throughout Oklahoma
