DEQ responds to City water issues; currently in compliance

Moments after the City of Guthrie released their statement on the city’s drinking water regarding blue-green algae, Guthrie News Page reached out to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to see what they had to say on the issue.

Part of the City’s statement said, “Upon reviewing the analysis performed by Red River Environmental Laboratory on September 7 and submitted by Fox 25 / KOKH reporter Jennifer Falsetti, staff confirmed the present water quality is compliant with Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality standards and found no indications of the presence of blue-green algae (BGA).” Related article:  City of Guthrie releases second statement on drinking water

In response to a Guthrie News Page phone call, DEQ Public Information Manager Erin Hatfield says the City is currently in compliance, but has not reviewed lab results regarding blue-green algae.

“DEQ has not reviewed the analytical results from the Red River Environmental Laboratory and therefore cannot comment on those results. Currently, Guthrie is in compliance with primary drinking water standards.”

Hatfield says they hope to have results early next week on the BGA.

“DEQ has collected samples for BGA, and depending on the complexity of those samples, may have results on Monday, September 12.”

Guthrie News Page reached out to the City after receiving the statement from DEQ, but did not hear back immediately. Once a response is given it will be updated in this article.
